Kirsty - "Since I was a little girl I have always wanted to teach..."

CTT Primary Trainee, Kirsty, reflects on her first week in school ...
Since I was a little girl I have always wanted to teach, My nature has always been to support and care for others so teaching was a very fitting profession for me to go into! Cumbria Teacher Training was for certain the best course for me...
The centre is easily accessible from my home and the staff who run the course are extremely approachable and supportive. I was also impressed with the course content and how much experience I will get as a trainee in a number of schools. This was of huge importance for me as I wish to gain confidence and knowledge across the curriculum.

I had worked in a number of schools for many years, this included secondary and I have always known that I would like work with children until my retirement (Which is a long way off may I add!). I gained my BA (Hons) in Teaching and Learning support back in 2016. After having my son in 2017 I knew I wanted to continue my journey onto Cumbria Teacher Training when my son was a little older.

The online training has been phenomenal with continual support and prompt replies if I have had any queries. As for now, COVID-19 has not had any major implications to my training. We are able to work from home and train online which is fantastic. Besides, we were still able to go to the centre and achieve our first aid and mental health training, Plus have a session on phonics and lesson planning! This was also a great chance for me to meet my fellow trainee teachers, (Thankfully - they are a nice bunch).

For me, the thing that I have enjoyed most about my first week on placement has been getting to know the children and the class teacher. They have all been so welcoming and its been a nice week watching how their routine runs and also seeing how each child individually achieves.  I’m very much looking forward to teaching them next week!
